Today's Random Thoughts

Today is a new day. Helped my bro-inlaw with fall harvest this past week. Lots to do yet, not going smoothly but still fun the be a part of that life. We will be going to my folks whom we have not spent much time with lately but thoroughly enjoy our times with them. Our dog (BJ) has started to chase cars (even those 1/2 mile away) not the brightest pup!! He now is styling with a shock collar (I mean an obedience training device) that gets his attention. My daughter is thirteen, with a cell phone, I now must text...good grief!! Seth and I have been studying "Raising a Modern Day Night" together. We have enjoyed it. Tami is now home from school. Have a good week.

Training!

Been training at the firehouse for the past several days. SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) training, search and rescue as well as some disorientation type drills. You work in total darkness, going by feel while trying to communicate with your partner over extremely loud fans. You shout in each other's ear just to hear each other while searching for small items wearing heavy leather gloves. You are blind, communications tough, your sense of touch is numb at best, you get frustrated, nervous, scared of running out of air and your pride tells you "I can beat the first group!" while really wondering if you can. It is a completely safe environment, no heat or fire, no lives to search for, just a battle of your mind and will to be good at what you do without letting your partner down. Not completely unlike a marriage. So what's the key?!?.....Stay calm, focused, use past learned experiences, be willing to learn, speak clearly, remain humble, keep your senses, learn from others, stay alert, be thorough never let your partner down, admit mistakes, pray and let The Chief lead.
